One of the prettiest devices to have launched during the IFA in Berlin this year was Lenovo’s Vibe X2. The Chinese OEM isn’t the most experienced with cellphone manufacture, but this time round it did manage to churn out quite a looker. Thanks to it having a MediaTek MT6595m baked into it, it’s certified to be a decent performer as well.
The overall design language of the Vibe X2 is minimalistic, save for the sides which give you an impression of a ‘layered’ slab. Fortunately for Lenovo, the design turned out to be extremely well accepted. Besides the aforementioned MediaTek MT6595m SoC, the Vibe X2 features a 5-inch 1080p display, a 13 MP rear camera, a 5 MP front facing camera, 2GB of RAM, and a 2300mAh battery of non-removable nature.
Reports fresh from Lenovo’s home country of China tell us that the company is working on a larger and thinner version of the device. You could say it is quite out of the blue, since the Vibe X2 has only started to be available in a lot of markets; but Lenovo seems to have realized that 5 inches of screen simply doesn’t cut it for a lot of users. And that’s why, the new and updated version of the Vibe X2 will feature not a 5 inch screen, but a 5.3 inch one. While the change in size is marginal, lovers of the large screen form factor will definitely appreciate the change.
Despite the increased size, the display will continue to feature a 1920 x 1080p resolution. It’ll chuck the 2GHz octa-core for a more feeble-sounding 1.5GHz SoC, but we’re not certain about the model yet (it’ll still be octa-core and from MediaTek, though). Lastly, the thickness will be reduced from 7.3mm to an impressive 6.8mm, which makes it look like Lenovo are going for the style conscious with this one. An entry for this device was found at TENAA, which you can think of as the Chinese equivalent of the FCC. There’s no official information available as yet, but expect Lenovo to start talking about it soon.
