The curse of 3D doesn’t seem to be leaving the technology world anytime soon. While television manufacturers have moved on from the 3D craze, the smartphone world has apparently taken a liking to it. Amazon showed their fascination with a 3D-like technology in the overpriced Amazon Fire phone. But now we have news that one of the largest smartphone manufacturers might be getting ready with a device having a 3D display. Are you ready for the iPhone 3D?

The speculated 3D display will not require the user to wear any glasses to experience a sense of depth.

The Chinese publication Economic Daily News reported that Apple’s supply partner TPK has already started raising funds to acquire the materials required to develop a glasses-free 3D display for the next generation of iPhone.

Citing supply chain sources, the publication claims that the 3D technology could not be implemented using the current embedded touch technology that Apple adopted after the iPhone 5 and in the latest iPad Air.

Along with the requisite hardware for the glasses-free 3D display, Apple is also working on building a software ecosystem for the display.

To be honest, the rumours seem a little far-fetched. With only a couple of phones launched every year by the company, it is not likely that Apple will go for such a drastic gamble with their flagship. Acting as a further deterrent will be the performance of previous 3D phones like the HTC Evo 3D and LG Optimus 3D which had a poor run in the market. We suggest you to take this rumours with a heavy serving of salt.
