HP continues to operate on the outskirts of the mobile market and the company's latest product is the Slate 6 VoiceTab II, a successor to the device launched less than a year ago. However, while this is an upgraded edition of that device, the sequel seems uncannily like its predecessor, so prepare to be let down.
Really, the difference here is almost non-existent. Honestly, the only real difference with the Slate 6 VoiceTab II is that it gets Android 4.4 KitKat instead of the 4.2 Jelly Bean build the first model was running. Perhaps HP has never heard of software updates, but I don?t think an entirely new product was needed just to push out KitKat. Also, I am not at all confident that this device will ever see Android 5.0 Lollipop, but hey there?s always the VoiceTab 3 I guess.
There is actually one other change, there is now an 8 megapixel rear camera lens perched on the back as opposed to the 5 megapixel shooter found on the previous model. Everything else seems to be the same, which means 3G connectivity, a 6-inch IPS display with 720 x 1280 pixels, 2 MP front-facing camera, a quad-core 1.2 GHz Marvell PXA1088 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of expandable storage space, and a 3000 mAh Li-Po battery.
The selling point of this device is that it of course has the ability to make and receive calls, while it also packs dual-SIM capabilities. Whether that's enough to pay $259 for remains to be seen, but HP is only releasing this in India for the time being, so most people will never even get the chance to find out.
